Re-assembling Editorial Space: From Journal to Network

New editorial sensibilities play an increasingly prominent role in contemporary art. Digital, print, and broadcast are presumed complements rather than possible formats. What are the aesthetic and political potentialities and responsibilities of this editorial shift, and what makes contemporary art a ready context for revising editorial practice? A roundtable with leading curators and editors will focus on expectations of content versus demonstrating network.

MULTISCREEN: The Politics of Image and Information Utopias

This panel departs from a consideration of recent and forthcoming recreations of Charles and Ray Eames’ Think exhibition within the IBM Pavilion for the 1964 World’s Fair in New York and Stan VanDerBeek’s MovieDrome project, 1963-1965, in Stony Point, New York. Questioning the “reconstructive neurosis” within modern and contemporary art to borrow Umberto Eco’s term, the conversation will consider a utopian moment of multimedia expansion within design, art, and architecture, and draw parallels and contrasts with today’s screen culture of constant connectivity and information exchange.

Alexandra Midal, Curator and Director Master in Design Haute École d’Art et de Design, Geneve

This roundtable will consider how emergent forms of artistic production and expressly socialized events are influencing the temporality of reception and inquiry.
